Voices of Times Past

The mind is made up by what it feeds upon. (William James)

Oh, to have grown up with eloquence and thought. To lament the passing of voices that spoke so passionately of hope and dreams and struggle and triumph. So deep and inspiring their messages that we would carry a verse with us and feast on it for days.

Alas, technology has muted these voices and replaced them with mindless memes and 100-character bursts of nonsensical chatter, goldfish drowning in an ocean of digital information. Who shouts the loudest commands the most attention.

Ah, to spend this day in my library with sages and prophets, keeping company with deep thinkers whose profundity comes from their substance and style. I can smell their ideas—chocolate, vanilla, and coffee. And today, I only get fat on their ideas.
