Now What?

Was I young and naive when I left for war? Yes, now what?
Was I shocked by what I saw? Yes, now what?
Was I afraid at times? Yes, now what?
Was I affected by this experience? Yes, now what?
Was it a mark of my humanity to be affected by this? Yes, now what?

Did I find life difficult when I came home? Yes, now what?
Did I bring home unfinished business? Yes, now what?
Did I feel isolated when I came home? Yes, now what?
Did I carry this with me in silence for too long? Yes, now what?
Did my war experience offer context for my path in life? Yes, now what?

Am I tired of dragging this stuff around for fifty years? Yes, now what?
Am I better off for having grown through this experience? Yes, now what?
Am I more than a Vietnam Veteran? Yes, now what?
Am I ready to let things settle in-place in my psyche? Yes, now what?
Am I a believer that there is hope in the shadows of war? Yes, now what?
